Poroshenko has ruled out an increase in spending on the army

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Ukraine could not afford to increase funding for the army, as the load on the critical large budget, reports “Interfax-Ukraine”.

According to Poroshenko, Ukraine is spending on defense almost 3% of GDP. In the mid-noughties Ukraine spent on defense “almost 1%”. On the other hand, Poroshenko noted that 3% is “too little for a country that de-facto state of war.”

“But more, unfortunately, and it’s true, we can’t afford. The military burden on the budget and social sphere and so critically high,” said the President of Ukraine, in his annual address in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Tuesday in Kiev.

In may 2016, Poroshenko said that Ukraine learned to defend their land” and created “one of the most powerful and most Patriotic army on the continent.”
