The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko during a speech with his annual address in the Verkhovna Rada called Russia a continental and global challenge and accused her of trying razruzhit security system in Europe.
“The behavior of Russia in the world, violation of international law, the Kremlin’s attempt to destroy European security architecture, its expansionism is a continental and global issue and cannot be resolved purely on a bilateral basis,” — said Poroshenko (quoted by “Interfax”).
According to the Ukrainian leader, Kiev needs “serious international support in the fight against Russian aggression”, and to ensure the support for Ukrainian diplomacy “becoming increasingly difficult”.
Poroshenko also called for the introduction against Russia new sanctions, and stated the need to develop a modern version of the amendment of Jackson-Vanik. This amendment to the law on trade was adopted in the U.S. in 1974 and was intended to restrict trade with countries that prevent emigration and violate other human rights. The amendment in relation to Russia was abolished by Congress in 2012.
