Colombia has signed with the rebels an agreement to end 50-year war

The Colombian government and rebels of the leftist organization “Revolutionary armed forces of Colombia (FARC) have signed a historic agreement on a cease-fire after more than 50 years of war, reports Reuters.

Signatures under the document was signed in Havana, Colombian President Manuel Santos and the rebel leader Timoleon Jimenez.

Agreement to which the parties approached the last three years, provides, inter alia, the demobilization of the personnel of the FARC within 180 days after the conclusion of a peace agreement.

The conflict between the Colombian government and leftist rebels originated in the 1960-ies because of dissatisfaction with the profound socio-economic inequality of the population. For the same reason in other States of Latin America at the time, broke a major uprising.
