Two-time Olympic champion in pole vaults Elena Isinbaeva has declared, that will submit a claim to the court of arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne to the International Association of athletics federations (IAAF), reports “RIA Novosti”.
Isinbayeva said that Russian athletes will have to individually sue in CAS. She noted that the athletes will prove that they are unable to represent Russia at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
“Yesterday I told you I was 99.9% sure that I’m not going. But today from the IOC was good news. So today I’m talking about 95,5%,” — said the athlete.
June 21 at the summit in Lausanne, the international Olympic Committee (IOC) endorsed the decision of IAAF to disqualify Russian athletes. The head of the IOC Thomas Bach said that the summit did not resolve the issue of disqualification of federations at the Olympics.
“The IOC supports and endorses the strong position of the IAAF in the fight against doping. This principle is appropriate given the IOC’s position of zero tolerance for doping. We endorse and fully support the decision of the IAAF Council to cancel the disqualification of the all-Russian athletics Federation”, — said Bach.
Isinbayeva previously said he will go to court if Russian athletes were not allowed to compete at the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro. “This is a direct violation of human rights, discrimination,” said Isinbayeva.
