Russian President Vladimir Putin
The war of sanctions has no effect on the US economy, acknowledged the Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to him, is suffering from Russian counter-sanctions, imposed in response to Western sanctions, only Europe and he doesn’t understand why the Europeans agree to tolerate it.
“The sanctions [as] they relate to the United States? Yes could not relate to. Generally they do not care about these sanctions, because the consequences of our response they are not reflected. Impact on Europe and the US have no effect, zero effect. But the Americans say to their partners: it is necessary to suffer. Why would they tolerate, I don’t understand. Well, they want — let them suffer”, — Putin said at the plenary session of the St. Petersburg international economic forum.
That the US economy does not suffer from the deterioration of relations with Russia, Putin announced in late 2014, shortly after the two countries introduced to each other sanctions. “We fall trade turnover with the European countries. However, there are some positive things which, when I looked today the statistics even surprised me somewhat. We are seeing an increase in trade with other countries. For example, with the United States turnover increased by 7%, while imports from the US increased by 23%”, — Putin said in December 2014 at a meeting with representatives of the state Duma and the Federation Council.
Later that in imposing sanctions, the US authorities acted solely in their interests, said Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. “There is an example of a country with which we have over the past months has not decreased turnover. Is the United States. With all of those sanctions, the pressure that we have. Once it is clear someone had an interest in the sanctions. With Europe declined, with Belarus has decreased, with other countries. And with the United States has not decreased,” — said Dvorkovich in April 2015.
That USA continue cooperation with Russia in most important sectors, while Europe is strictly complying with the terms of the sanctions and bears heavy losses and said the Europeans themselves. “When the U.S. economy is favorable, the US is ready to make a “break” in a new cold war with Russia,” — noted in an article published in 2015 in the magazine Spiegel. At the end of the year, Russian trade representative to the US Alexander Stadnik told that the trade turnover between the two countries still fell about a third. According to the Federal customs service, the reduction of Russia’s trade with the US totaled in 2015 28.1 per cent, with countries of the European Union to 37.6%. However, the actual losses from the US cuts trade really small, as Russia before the war, sanctions were among the largest trading partners of the United States. At the same time, for the EU, Russia has always been one of the main markets.
In February 2016, the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the United States benefited from the introduction of sanctions against Russia, while the EU lost. “Sanctions have lost the European Union. Won The United States. They urged isolating Russia, but it is with them, the trade turnover of Russia has grown. In relations with our partners we have been thrown back decades, and the US who are overseas, increased us trade cooperation. Fantastic! That concludes who benefits from it. A number of European countries suffer from this situation, it slows down their economic growth,” — said Zakharov.
Arrived opened this week in St. Petersburg, the former President of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, also acknowledged that the cold war with Russia not in the interests of Europeans, but suggested that Russia, the first to lift the sanctions. “I am among those who believe that it is necessary to remove the sanctions, we have enough problems as it is. We can’t afford to suffer, and the strong need to reach out first. The strongest is Russia and that President Putin,” — said Sarkozy. On Friday, the press Secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov rejected the proposal of Sarkozy, comparing the unilateral abolition of Russian kontrsanktsy “charity”.
Food embargo against EU countries, USA, Canada, Australia and Norway was introduced on 7 August 2014 in response to sanctions over the situation in Ukraine and annexation of Crimea. Later, the black list has been added another five countries — Albania, Montenegro, Iceland, and Liechtenstein (1 January 2016) Ukraine. Originally for import to Russia banned all types produced in the above-mentioned countries of cattle meat and poultry, pork, fish and shellfish, and shellfish, dairy products, cheeses, sausages, vegetables, fruits, roots and nuts. Later in the prohibited products list several times had changed. In June 2015 the validity of the Russian embargo was extended to August 2016. At the end of may 2016, the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev instructed to prepare proposals for the extension of the embargo to the end of 2017, explaining his decision and caring about the interests of the domestic agribusiness.
