The heads of Azerbaijan and Armenia met for the first time after fighting in Karabakh

In Vienna began the first after the aggravation of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh meeting between the presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan, the correspondent of “RIA Novosti”.

Intermediaries are the countries co-chairing the OSCE Minsk group — Russia, USA and France. In particular, participate in the negotiations of the foreign Ministers of Russia and France Sergey Lavrov and Jean-Marc Ayrault, as well as U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry.

Source TASS in one of the delegations said that the sides will try to work out a final statement. It is, according to the interlocutor, “should enhance the focus on political resolution of the conflict in the region.”

That the negotiations between Armenian and Azeri presidents will be held on Monday in Vienna, it became known on may 12. That day the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk group made a statement. They expressed the view that such a meeting is necessary in order “to strengthen the ceasefire regime and to reach agreement on measures of strengthening of trust”. This, in turn, said the co-chairs of the group, “will create favorable conditions for the resumption of negotiations on a comprehensive settlement of the conflict based on the elements and principles that are being discussed”.

On the night of 2 April in the zone of conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh was deteriorating, in which Baku and Yerevan accused each other. The UN has reported more than 30 dead and over 200 injured. 5 April, the parties announced a ceasefire.
