Former President of Georgia and the current head of the Odessa regional administration Mikhail Saakashvili opposed the appointments of senior positions in Ukraine of foreign politicians. In his opinion, such measures are “shame and disgrace”. He said this on air of the Ukrainian TV channel “112 Ukraine”.
“And as they say: “Now we will bring some foreign reformers, pull out of mothballs some of the former Eastern European Prime Minister and Minister”… When we speak, someone somewhere was a Minister or Prime Minister 25 years ago, we need to get out of mothballs, to bring, to put to control the Ukraine? It’s a shame,” explained Saakashvili.
He noted that in ten years will also be “naphthalene” politician. In his opinion, the appointment of foreign politicians who have previously held high positions, to positions in Ukraine “is done in order to prevent a new generation to power.”
Saakashvili appointed as Governor of Odessa region in may 2015. Then he received Ukrainian citizenship are automatically deprived of Georgian citizenship. At the time of administration of the Odessa region Saakashivili eliminated eight units of regional administration and announced his intention to halve the number of local officials.
In mid-March the edition “Odessa” with reference to a source in the presidential administration of Ukraine told about the intention of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to dismiss Saakashvili from office. At the same time Advisor to former President of Georgia Sasha Borovik has explained that information about the resignation of the Governor “is a hypothetical one”.
The next day the press Secretary of the President of Ukraine Svyatoslav Tsegolko denied this information.
At the head of some Ukrainian Ministers are foreigners — Alexander Kvitashvili (Georgia) and aivaras abromavicius (Lithuania), Natalia Yaresko (USA). They are headed by the Ministry of health, the Ministry of economic development and Ministry of Finance respectively. Now all politicians have Ukrainian citizenship.
