European-Japanese space probe launched to mercury

The European-Japanese BepiColombo space probe early on Saturday morning, October 20, started to mercury. The carrier rocket Ariane 5 Bepicolombo was launched from Kourou in French Guyana.

According to specialists, the probe, whose length is 6,40 m and a weight of 4.1 tons, reaches nearest to the Sun planet in December 2025. Then he separated the two stand-alone satellites that will explore mercury from two different orbits.

Scientists hope, among other things, to obtain information about the magnetic field and the surface properties of the smallest planets in the Solar system.
