The Cabinet of Ministers again decided not to raise the price of gas for the population — media

The Cabinet of Ministers extended the effect of special obligations (PSO) for the sale of natural gas for the population and Teplokommunenergo (CTV) at a reduced price, which expires on October 18 for another two weeks.

About it reports Agency “Interfax-Ukraine” with reference to an informed source in the government.

“As far as I know, was extended for two weeks. But let’s wait for the publication of the Cabinet”, — said the source.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers resolution No. 187 of March 22, 2017 provided that spacebattles for the sale of gas to the population and CTV will be in effect until April 1, 2018, but later the government extended them until the end of may until the end of July, August and September, and 28 September to 18 October.

It should be noted that the issue of gas prices for the population is one of the key for the resumption of financing from the IMF. Thus, the increase in gas prices was one of the requirements of the IMF to allocate to Ukraine the next tranche of the loan. At the end of July 2018 , the Cabinet froze the price of gas up to September 2018, while continuing the talks with the IMF on raising the price.

First, Volodymyr Groysman assured citizens that the increase in gas prices in the near future will not happen. But in August he was forced to change his mind. August 23, the Prime Minister said that Ukraine recognizes its obligation to raise prices, but said that “the issue of raising gas prices is very difficult.” He also added that for a year this situation constrains, however, “there is a question about the next promotion.”

August 31 Groysman explained that the price increase of gas is required to reduce the debt burden on the budget, as it will allow “to get rid of the debt shackles which now “stand to Ukraine” at least $5 billion a year.”

In September 2018 worked in Kyiv the IMF mission. It was reported that during the talks the Ukrainian government has reached an in principle agreement on the gradual raising gas prices to import parity level by 2020.

1 October faction “BPP” at the meeting with Volodymyr Groysman discussed the rising cost of gas for the population. The Prime Minister said that the best option would be to consider a phased increase in gas prices.
