UOC urge the Ukrainian authorities to defend the rights of all believers, or “generally silent”

Moscow. 21 Aug. INTERFAX – the Ukrainian Orthodox Church urged the authorities to move away from a selective approach in the sphere of protection of the rights of believers.

The Deputy head of the Department for external Church relations of the UOC Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich expressed surprise official commentary of the MFA of Ukraine concerning preventing the construction of a UGCC Church in White Church, regarded as “inciting sectarian strife”.

“Where is similar content the comment of the foreign Ministry, when there was an attack in the night from 28 to 29 July at the Church of St. Spyridon in Kiev, where I serve as rector? Where appropriate comments when captured, starting in 2014 until today, several dozens of Ukrainian Orthodox churches in Western Ukraine and was beaten and thrown our people into the streets?” – asks the questions the priest on Tuesday on his page on “Facebook”.

He also asked no harm if Ukraine “system of iniquity against churches, communities and faithful of the UOC” and whether it’s an assault on freedom of conscience and incitement to religious hatred.

“If you protect everything, and if not, do the best to remain silent,” says a representative of the UOC, adding that “there is a selective approach solid state body for religious organizations.”

As reported, in the night from 17 to 18 August in the town of White Church, Kyiv region unknown persons threw a concrete fence at the construction site of the Church of the Nativity, the first city Church of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church.
