Moscow. 21 Aug. INTERFAX – Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill pointed to the danger that large-scale reconstruction of the runway on the Solovetsky Islands is for the spiritual-cultural heritage of the archipelago.
“The band can do more than any other anthropogenic factor influence on environmental destruction and cultural image of Solovki. We are talking not only about what will fly jets and you will hear all these sounds, we are talking about the fact that the number of flights will be increased so that the flow of passengers will affect the environment and to the spiritual and cultural image of the space of Solovki”, – the Patriarch said on Monday at a meeting of the Board of Trustees for the reconstruction of the archipelago.
He noted that the projects of reconstruction of the runway at Solovki cause some debate: instead of a one-mile runway proposed runway is 2.5 km, and the Federal air transport Agency offers to create a runway that will allow to accept planes of type Superjet.
“We need to preserve the uniqueness, we need to think including that transport infrastructure strongly contributed to the realization of our shared concerns preserving the identity of the Solovki, so they do not turned into a tourist attraction with all the negative consequences,” – said the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
In his opinion, the works unacceptable the demolition of the Thabor chapel, located near the airport, the overlap of the Creek, which flows into the Holy lake is the only source of drinking water for the inhabitants of the island, is unacceptable and the transfer of roads. In addition, Patriarch Kirill considers unacceptable increase in noise load on the archipelago.
