Saint-Petersburg. August 22. INTERFAX – Benois wing, on Wednesday opened the exhibition “St. Isaac’s Cathedral. The history of creation,” the press service of the Russian Museum.
“The exhibition was timed to the 200th anniversary of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, reveals a little-known page in the history of the architectural monument. The interior of the Cathedral as it appears today, looks different than intended,” – said in the message.
Russian Museum has a set of preparatory materials for the paintings of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, which represent not only all the necessary stages of work, but also working papers of artists, preserved in hundreds of drawings.
The exhibition presents about 100 works – drawings, cartoons, sketches by Karl Briullov, Fedor Bruni, Peter basin from the collection of the Russian Museum. Many of them exhibited for the first time and allow you to see the vision that was never fully realized.
The main period of construction of the temple occurred during the reign of Nicholas I. the Total project scenic design of St. Isaac’s Cathedral was prepared by Auguste de Montferrand.
