Moscow. July 9. INTERFAX – the head of the Synodal Department for external Church relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, believes that women should not be abused by the services of plastic surgeons.
“If a woman has some kind of defect that can easily be fixed, and she will feel better and happier then I see no reason she can’t go to a plastic surgeon,” the Metropolitan said, answering the question in the program “Church and world” on TV channel “Russia-24”.
However, he noted that modern “beauty industry” often compels women to go under the scalpel of a plastic surgeon for no reason, and the consequences of such operations are unpredictable. According to the hierarchy, in such cases, the clergy has the duty to dissuade women from surgical intervention.
Metropolitan Hilarion also reminded the words of the Apostle Peter that “the adornment of women is not of plaiting the hair, and the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit,” and noted that the spiritual beauty of women can not compare to the physical beauty obtained by plastic surgery.
