Veliky Novgorod. July 6. INTERFAX – Restorers will carry out the repair and restoration work in the main Cathedral of Klopsk Trinity monastery under the Great Novgorod, which is in poor condition, have informed “Interfax” in the government region.
“The restoration work will be conducted in the South aisle standing on the banks of the river Veraga the magnificent Trinity Cathedral – a unique monument of architecture of the XVI century, the construction of which is associated with the name of Tsar Ivan IV the terrible”, – said the Agency interlocutor.
Experts evaluated the current condition of the chapel as an emergency: the roof of the monument occurs on the walls of wet frescoes of the XVIII-XIX centuries. Masters will be to restore the roof and attic, masonry walls and vaults, to manufacture and install crosses, put doors and Windows.
According to the Chronicles, the Klopsk monastery received the name by name who lived in it of St Michael of Klopsk, during which the monastery became famous throughout Russia. Contributions to the monastery did Russian tsars, the princes, the representatives of ancient names – Miloslavskii, Pozharsky Urusov. For the construction of the Trinity Cathedral at the Klopsk monastery donated money Ivan the terrible.
To the present day from the old monastic buildings are preserved two stone buildings of the XVI century: the Trinity Cathedral, erected in 1562, and a refectory.
