Saakashvili has offered to exchange Medvedchuk prisoners of Ukrainians in Russia

KYIV, 3 Dec — RIA Novosti. The ex-President of Georgia, former Governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili proposed to arrest the leader of the public movement “the Ukrainian choice — the right of the people”, a representative of Kyiv in the humanitarian sub-group on Donbass Viktor Medvedchuk for its further exchange for the Ukrainians who are in Russian prisons.

Monday the first Vice-speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Gerashchenko announced the names of 23 Russians that Ukraine is ready to transfer to Russia in exchange for prisoners in the Russian Ukrainians. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that he discussed with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko, the issue of detainees, including the fate of the head of RIA news Ukraine Kirill Vyshinsky. The Commissioner for human rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova said that “talking on the phone with Denisova, Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, concerning the exchange of lists”.

“His (Viktor Medvedchuk – ed.) should be immediately arrested”, — Saakashvili wrote on his page on Facebook, expressing confidence that after that Moscow will “negotiate the exchange of hostages.”

However, he urged the public to write on the pages of interior Minister of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, the Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko, Secretary of the national security and defense Council Oleksandr Turchynov and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in the social networks to arrest Medvedchuk. Journalists, he called on to do so during press conferences and briefings, and politicians were asked to urge their supporters to do likewise.

In November 2017 Medvedchuk appealed to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin with the request to support the proposal on the exchange of prisoners between Kiev and self-proclaimed republics of Donbass. This was followed by the largest during the conflict in the Donbass and first 15 months of the exchange of prisoners. Later Poroshenko said that Medvedchuk proved to be the most effective negotiator on an exchange of prisoners in the Donbass.
