In Congress, introduced the draft resolution on recognizing the Holodomor as genocide

MOSCOW, 9 Aug — RIA Novosti. In the House of representatives of the U.S. Congress introduced a draft resolution on recognition of the 1932-1933 famine as genocide of the Ukrainian people. It is reported by the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States.

The bill was introduced by a group of congressmen from the Democratic and Republican parties, led by Sander Levin, Marcy Kaptur, Brian Fitzpatrick and Andy Harris. It is dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the tragic events.

According to the report of the Embassy, the document is a mirrored version of the resolution, which was submitted to the Senate in March of this year.

The text States that “the events of 1932-1933 in Ukraine was a planned action of Stalin’s totalitarian regime, which was aimed against the Ukrainian people was genocide.”

The famine of 1932-1933 covered the main grain regions of the USSR — Ukraine, North Caucasus, Lower and middle Volga region, a considerable part of the Central Chernozem region, Kazakhstan, Western Siberia, southern Urals. Then, according to various estimates, killed from 7 to 8 million people, of which 3-3. 5 million — in Ukraine, 2 million in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, 2-2,5 million in the RSFSR.
