Daria returns to the middle of the MTV rebrand

MTV is reviving its counter-culture, animated series, Daria, as part of a major network to do so.

Restart the computer, Daria, and Jodie, will see the teenage years of the heroine Daria Morgendorffer “signature satirical voice” return, with Jodie Landon, replacing Jane Lane as his side-kick.

MTV has said the pair will be on “popular culture, social class, and race”.

The recovery will be executed by the Studios of MTV – a new unit for the reconditioning of the network shows for the streaming services.

Daria is back will be completely redesigned by Grace Edwards, the writer behind Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

The original character of the 65 episode five of the series run, which aired between 1997 and 2001, and culminated with the teenager disillusioned graduating from Lawndale High School.

It is not yet known whether the new show will follow this timeline, or to what extent the series ‘ original characters – including Daria cheerleader sister Quinn and crush Trent Lane – will be back.

Tracy Grandstaff, the original voice of Daria, is also yet to confirm its participation.

The re-imagination is one of the six new, and relive the securities included in the Studios of MTV’s launch slate.

This includes a reboot of the animated series of the 90’s Aeon Flux, a renewal of the reality television series The Real World and a series of new written coming-of-age show.

MTV’s decision to open up to streaming services and to capitalize on its 35 years of back catalogue that follows a strong increase in its online profile and the audience.

The network, at the origin, the place of birth of music television, has attracted $ 2.9 billion of cash flows in 2018, an increase of 83% in one year.

“MTV has the largest collection of hit young franchise that spans over three decades of content and more than 200 titles, a portion of which have fed into our resurgence,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV.

“With MTV Studios, we are for the first time the opening of the vault, beyond our own platforms to reimagine the franchise with new partners,” he says.
