Built in honor of Ivan the terrible, the sixteenth-century Church will be restored in Vologda region

Saint-Petersburg. May 23. INTERFAX – the Church of the Archangel Gabriel, the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery, Vologda region, built in 1534 on the occasion of the birth of the future Tsar Ivan the terrible, will be renovated for 20 million rubles.

As the press service of the North-Western Directorate for construction, reconstruction and restoration until November 2018 should be performed masonry restoration on all facades and wall stairs.

The roof will be repaired and the roof is made by electric lighting and heating. The specialists also will restore the frames of the iconostasis of the Church of the Archangel Gabriel and the chapel of Constantine and Helen.

Currently already completed the clearing of facades from the layers of plaster and paint finishes clearing the walls in the interior.

In December 1528 Grand Prince Vasily the Third with his wife Elena Glinskaya went on pilgrimage to the Kirillov monastery, and on 25 August 1530, he was the long-awaited heir, the future Tsar Ivan the terrible.
