“The members of the Synod emphasized that (this is the “if”) the question is beyond the Church’s canonical fields: the granting of autocephaly petitioned the secular authorities of Ukraine with the support of schismatic, non-canonical communities. The ecclesiastical status of these communities, separated from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is not recognized in the Orthodox world”, – told reporters the head of the Synodal Department for external Church relations, Metropolitan Hilarion, on Monday, the results held in St. Petersburg the meeting of the Synod.
The Bishop stressed that the hierarchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church headed by Metropolitan Onufry, who was present at this meeting, to the Patriarchate of Constantinople on this issue is not addressed.
“It is impossible to avoid making decisions on the basis of the initiatives of the non-canonical communities and secular government, which intervention in the internal Affairs of the Church is unacceptable. The status of an Autocephalous Church parallel to the rift against the will of the canonical Church in whose territory it is located, is an ecclesiastical-legal nonsense”, – said Metropolitan Hilarion.
