The Pentagon is offering Turkey an alternative to the Russian s-400

WASHINGTON, April 12 – RIA Novosti. The US is offering Turkey an alternative to the Russian anti-aircraft missile systems and recommend acquisition of new complexes, said Thursday the Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis.

“There are two countries, a NATO member, which provide missile defense Turkey’s missile defense endorsed by NATO. Now, what happens is that in one area of a metal are incompatible missile defense system. And it is perhaps best serves the interests of NATO,” said Mattis at hearings in Committee on armed house of representatives, U.S. Congress, answering questions from legislators.

“We don’t support it, and we are negotiating with Turkey about this, including about the possibility of giving them the option of buying military equipment, which would allow them to be compatible with (standards), NATO system,” — said the head of the defence Department of the USA.

As stated earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin at press conference following talks with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Moscow and Ankara have agreed to accelerate delivery times of Turkey s-400.

Earlier, the US government announced the imposition of sanctions against 38 Russian individuals and legal entities, including against the “Rosoboronexport”, “Russian financial Corporation” and “RUSAL”. In response, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan reaffirmed Ankara’s desire to purchase Russian s-400, saying that Turkey itself will decide their fate.

In December of last year in Ankara, Russian and Turkish representatives signed the loan agreement on deliveries of s-400. According to the Secretariat of defense industry of Turkey, Ankara is buying two batteries of this complex, which will be served by Turkish staff. The parties agreed on technological cooperation in this field to develop the production of SAM in Turkey.
