KIEV, APR 5 — RIA Novosti. U.S. Senator Robert Portman said that the military and financial US assistance depends on the progress of Ukraine in implementation of reforms.
“It is important to continue to make progress (in implementation of reforms — ed.)… Important in several aspects. One of them concerns the military aid of the United States. As you know, now the administration (Donald ed.) trump has approved providing lethal defensive weapons, and we have increased the amount of funds in the budget appropriations voted less than a month ago. Much of this depends on continued progress in reforms,” Portman was quoted by UNIAN news Agency.
According to him, support for Ukraine from the IMF also depends on progress in the implementation of reforms. Portman believes that Ukraine needs to make progress in establishing anti-corruption court, but it is visible in the reform of the armed forces.
The house of representatives of the U.S. Congress in March adopted budget until 30 September 2018, the end of the current fiscal year. According to the Embassy of Ukraine in Washington, it increased the cost of support of Ukraine. In particular, the total volume of assistance to Ukraine is provided in the volume 620,7 million dollars, including 200 million for military assistance. The President of the United States Donald trump announced that he had signed the budget.
Earlier, the US administration has already approved the supply of Kiev weapons, including portable anti-tank missile systems Javelin. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Kyiv expects to receive weapons from the US in 2018. Russian Deputy foreign Minister Grigory Karasin told RIA Novosti that Russia is concerned about plans to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine.
