The U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions against 24 of the Russians

On Friday, the U.S. government expanded the list of persons subject to U.S. sanctions

The office of foreign assets control of the U.S. Treasury Department (ОFAC) has introduced sanctions against 26 individuals 14 companies. 24 individuals associated with the Ukrainian-Russian list and 2 from the Syrian government. According to a senior representative of the White house, the sanctions were the result of consultations with US allies and imposed not for any specific action, but for “causing behavior around the world.”

The list includes: Bogdanov Vladimir, Viktor Vekselberg, Oleg Deripaska, Dyumin Alexey Zolotov Victor, Suleiman Kerimov, Kosachev Konstantin, Andrey Kostin, Alexey Miller, Nikolai Patrushev, Igor Rotenberg, Alexander Torshin, Mikhail Fradkov, Shamalov Cyril.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said that “the Russian government is involved in some malicious activity around the world, including continues to occupy Crimea and to provoke violence in Eastern Ukraine, supplying the Assad regime bombing its own citizens, raw materials and weapons, trying to undermine the democratic States of the West and carry out malicious acts in cyberspace. Russian oligarchs and elites, profiting from actions of this dishonest system will no longer insulated from the effects of the destabilizing activities of their government”.

The Ministry explained that US citizens are forbidden to conduct business with legal and physical persons included in the sanctions lists, and assets of the defendants that are subject to U.S. jurisdiction be frozen.
