Moscow. March 21. INTERFAX – Moscow V interfaith Paschal marathon, timed to coincide with Passover and Easter are important holidays in Judaism and Christianity, will open Thursday in the Memorial synagogue on Poklonnaya hill.
The opening ceremony will be attended by prominent state and public figures, representatives of major religions, cultural figures, reported “Interfax” the press Secretary of the Russian Jewish Congress Mikhail Savin.
According to him, the marathon each year expanding its borders. In 2014, the first year of the event, it took place at eight sites in two districts of Moscow. In 2015 it’s been 18 sites in 2016 and 28 in 2017-m – 38. Fifth year was a record: joined the project 50 sites. Participants will include religious communities, national centers, libraries, schools.
Easter marathon will last until April 22. According to tradition, the religious festival of children’s choirs, lectures about the traditions and customs of Passover and Easter, creative and culinary master-classes, exhibitions and excursions, chess tournament and the Olympics on the knowledge of biblical history.
The marathon is organized by the Moscow Jewish community house and the Center for support of educational programs “Opening” and is held with the participation of the Moscow government, the Moscow Department of national policy, interregional cooperation, the Russian Jewish Congress and the Federal Jewish national-cultural autonomy.
The aim of the project is the development of interreligious understanding and cooperation, the convergence of the capital’s residents in relation to traditional national values, combating religious extremism, including on the Internet.
