KIEV, February 9 â€” RIA Novosti. The ex-President of Georgia and former Governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili said Friday that the guards wanted to detain him in Kiev.
Supporter of Mikheil Saakashvili, Davit Sakvarelidze had previously written in Facebook that the SBU special forces “alpha” has arrived in the Kiev hotel for the detention of the former Governor. Security service of Ukraine has denied this information.
“They were about 7-8 of Tommy… it was the guards. They came with guns, reloaded… Security of the hotel locked them… they had no documents”, â€” declared Saakashvili to journalists on Friday.
The Minister of justice of Ukraine Pavlo Petrenko said Friday that the Prosecutor General’s office of Ukraine to continue the extradition check in respect of Saakashvili, because the court rejected the policy in granting the status of person in need of complementary protection.
Previously, the migration service rejected the request of Saakashvili on granting it the status of person in need of complementary protection. The court found this decision lawful, Saakashvili appealed. However, the court of appeal confirmed the decision of the court of first instance. The lawyer Saakashvili Ruslan Chernolutsky reported that protection policy filed an appeal in the Supreme court of Ukraine on decision of the courts of first and appeal instances.
Saakashvili left Georgia after the inauguration of the new President George Margvelashvili in November 2013. The chief Prosecutor’s office of Georgia in absentia brought to the former President of the prosecution in several criminal cases and has repeatedly appealed to the Ukrainian side with a request to extradite Saakashvili.
