Patriarch Kirill prays for the repose of the deceased in Syria pilot Roman Filipov

Voronezh. 8 Feb. INTERFAX – Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill will pray for the repose of a military pilot Roman Filipov, who was killed in the Syrian province of Idlib, said on Thursday at a memorial service at home, the hero of Voronezh and Liski Metropolitan Sergiy.

According to Bishop, the feat R. Filipova gives the answer to the question about the purpose and meaning of life, loyalty to the Motherland. “In the distant Syria, it is up to the end was faithful to his duty and sacrificed his life for the Motherland”, – said the Metropolitan, adding that the Patriarch sends his condolences to the family of the deceased.

Only in the ceremony took part more than 30 thousand people, among them the leadership of the Ministry of defence, classmates and relatives of the deceased, representatives of law enforcement agencies and the clergy.

As reported, the su-25 under the management of R. Filipova was shot down on 3 February over the area of de-escalation “Idlib” a portable air defense missile system. The pilot managed to eject, but the world took an unequal battle with the terrorists. Being surrounded by rebels, he blew himself up with a grenade. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin awarded R. Filipova the title of Hero of Russia posthumously.
