Prosecutor’s office intends to return to the state property Angara “Jehovah’s Witnesses”

Irkutsk. 25 Jan. INTERFAX – Prosecutor of Angarsk has directed to city court the claim with the requirement to return in state property the building and land, formerly belonging to local religious organizations banned in Russia “Jehovah’s Witnesses”, said Thursday the Prosecutor’s office of the Irkutsk region.

“In 2017 the decision of the Supreme Court eliminated religious organization “Administrative center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia” and included in its structure the local religious organization (MRO). The property of the liquidated organization converts to the property of the Russian Federation on the basis of article 9 of the Federal law “On countering extremist activities” – recalls the Supervisory authority.

According to prosecutors, MRO “Jehovah’s Witnesses “Angarsk” before making this judgment based on the agreement of donation was given to the “Jehovah’s Witnesses” in Spain, the building and the land plot in Angarsk, where services were held.

“The donation agreement was not concluded in the non-profit purposes, as required by the civil law, and to avoid the loss of this property due to its recourse to the property of the Russian Federation. While real estate remained in the possession of the MRO “Witnesses iegovy Angarsk on the basis of the contract of uncompensated use,” the report says.

In this regard, the Prosecutor of Angarsk asks the court to declare the donation contract void, and to draw the building and the land plot of “Jehovah’s Witnesses” in the property of the Russian Federation.
