Over 5 thousand people, including more than 2 thousand women will compete in Uzbekistan in reading the Koran

Tashkent. 17 Jan. INTERFAX – For participation in the open contest of the Koran readers were registered almost 5.4 thousand people, said on Wednesday “Interfax” in the Management of Moslems of Uzbekistan.

“The total number of participants that were selected, made up 5366 people, including 3263 2103 men and women. They range in ages from 18 to 40 years,” – said the Agency interlocutor.

The competition is held in two nominations: the beautiful recitation of the Qur’an and its recitation. The first stage – the district (city), followed by regional and final – Republican. District and regional stages will be completed in March and the final results will be known in April.

The jury included not only representatives of the clergy of Uzbekistan, but also in other countries.

According to official figures, 94% of Uzbekistan’s population are Muslim, 3.5% of citizens are Orthodox Christians, the rest belong to other religions.
