Infamous car designer Chris Bangle, known for models such as the division of the fourth generation of the BMW 7 Series and the more widely regarded in the Fiat Coupe, has been on our radar since the release of BMW in 2009.
That is up until now. The bracelet has re-emerged with a completely different project with all that came before: a crazy Chinese city car concept called Redspace, who has the intention to reinvent the idea of the space in the car.
Revealed at the la motor show in November, the car, the Bracelet and his team have been working on since 2014, is likely to make production by 2020. The bracelet is optimistic that his design will change little, even if it recognizes that the cost could be a barrier.
So, why does the Strap leave BMW? “I decided that I had to leave BMW after 15 years at the end he is 17 years old. Not because I don’t like BMW, but because if I stayed, I knew that I was going to change and that he was not going to be pretty. A lot of the design of the cars of the leaders I have known, they all end their careers badly. People become bitter, they cling tooth and nail to keep control of their creativity.”
And so, a Bracelet, hatched a plan to set up his own design consultancy in Italy. BMW has requested that he does not design cars for a couple of years, and a Bracelet, was happy to oblige. “For me, the design of the car has very little to do with the four wheels,” he says.
One of his first projects was the redesign of a nursing home in Hiroshima, after her boss, which happened on the Bracelet Italian studio. “A huge amount of the car’s design has been thought in this project,” he says. “The place is booked.” The unexpected projects do not stop there. The bracelet has been designed packaging for Hennessy VSOP, saying the design had to be sympathetic to the cognac brand of the state as “an untouchable icon”.
It has been compared to a Mini success of the stimulus, in which he was involved. The cognac project has worked on: “Hennessy love. It is one of its more lucrative offers.” There has been a superyacht too, even space ships, the latter, in fact, “full-scale”.
A curious, ongoing project is a cartoon of the brand called Arky Arc, complete with your website and podcast. His intention is to education, to share the process of creating cartoons, to encourage creativity in children and to highlight a positive aspect of the internet.
The bracelet of the consultant team is now eight strong, even if it’s going to take more people on to specific projects, including the ex-BMW designers and engineers.
It is difficult to identify the Bracelet from the view of his best work: “The farther away you get from the physical creator of it and more the manager, the more you are proud of your team. For example, the Z4 for me, it was spectacular, because it was the first time that we have had two women [Juliane Blasi and Nadya Arnaout] to make a great sports car for a large production house. I don’t think anyone else has done that in the past 30 years.
“The last car that I actually wrote was the Fiat Coupé, that I really like. The more I see, the more I like it!”
And what about his latest project, the Redspace? “I am super proud of this car,” he said. “It is a big deal to me that we have been able to do something that is new to the design of the car.”
The project will remain the key of the Bracelet until it enters production, but what else does he want to achieve? There are many potential projects Bracelet not to disclose, but, speaking more generally, he reveals more of his altruistic side. “I want to help in the design of the cars to go forward,” he said. “I want to get out of its preconceived ideas of what it is and what it can be.
“Now, we are at the crossroads [design], which is going in the wrong direction. The designers have helped to convince the world that you prefer things made by machines rather than people; you prefer perfection over character. That, unfortunately, is disenfranchising a huge amount of the population of our planet.”
Depending on the Bracelet itself, his greatest achievement is his Big school project. “You can know me as a car designer, but where I live, I am the bench guys,” he said. What started as a desire to 2,5 m by 3m bench for him and his wife to enjoy is now a non-profit organization called the Grand Bench of a Community Project.
The bracelet gives the patentee the plans free as long as the banks strict criteria. For example, it must be put in place where it will not disturb anyone and in a place where people want to go. There are now 44 Grand Banks in Italy and New Zealand and there have been inquiries from the united KINGDOM, Germany and the united states. He said: “In front of our house on a good weekend I’m going to have 200 cars parked for the people to sit down on a bench. I’m so proud of it. The basic rule is no public money, only private donations or volunteers. This is not typical of Italy. It is a privately financed through the concept to the public. It is wonderfully effective.”
