A last-minute agreement was reached between the creators of the video game Overwatch and streaming site Twitch a day before matches kick off in a new league.

Developer Activision Blizzard is hoping that the games Twitch stream will help to make e-sports mainstream.

Overwatch is very popular, with 35 million players around the world.

The fact that the deal was struck so late, may affect the display of numbers, said an analyst.

First-person shooter has about two dozen characters in team-based battles in a near-future Earth.

In the month of July, Activision Blizzard has announced a e-sports league for the game that hopefully can turn out to be more profitable compared to the UNITED kingdom Premier League football.

The e-sports, competition teams from different cities around the world.

The two-year contract with Twitch gives the platform for the exclusive worldwide rights for all matches that will be streamed in English, Korean and French.

“The Blizzard has cut off the end with the announcement of Twitch as a streaming partner for the Overwatch League just a day before the start of the competition in Los Angeles on January 10,” said Piers Harding-Rolls, head of games research analyst at IHS, Markit.

“There is no doubt that the delay in confirming the distribution agreement, have influenced the negotiations of the teams for sponsorships and will Decline very little time to build awareness before the first game, which suggests the opening of the games may have a relatively low number of viewers.”

Activision Blizzard has said that the deal was great for our growing global fan base”.

“Our fans like to interact with the content on Twitch, and we wanted to drive in a significant way the number of viewers of Overwatch League in its inaugural season and beyond,” said Armin Zerza, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment. Rates in china

Kevin Lin, chief operating officer of Twitch, said: “The Overwatch Alloy is having a huge impact on e-sports to reshape the industry with city-based teams.

“Since Overwatch consistent reign as a top-saw the game from our community, we are pleased to offer their pioneering playing style of the league for a large and passionate fan base that will be able to bind not only their favorite games, but hometown pride.”

The deal was a huge boost for Twitch, said Mr Harding-Rolls.

“This cements the Contraction position as the strongest Western player in live video and sport, and I believe that the platform of a natural home for the Overwatch League,” he said.

“The agreement will help the Contraction to penetrate markets such as Korea, where the local e-sports streaming platforms and broadcasters have traditionally been dominant.”

Missing from the deal is China, which has the largest e-sports viewing audience, Mr Harding-Rolls predicted that there would be a separate announcement on the partnership with the media in this country.
