MOSCOW, 31 Dec — RIA Novosti. The Turkish authorities have detained 20 people, including 15 foreign nationals, on suspicion of having links with the “Islamic state”* and of planning a terrorist attack in Istanbul, Anadolu Agency reports.
According to the Agency, police unit to combat terrorism conducted raids in three districts of Istanbul. The detainees allegedly associated with the leaders of ISIS* in Syria and Iraq.
Police said that the detainees were planning to carry out an attack during the New year celebrations in the city.
After the outbreak of armed conflict involving ISIS* in Syria and Iraq, Turkish police detained more than five thousand suspects in connection with the activities of this terrorist group. He was deported about 3 thousand 290 people from 95 countries, approximately 38 thousand people denied entry into Turkey. In custody are 780 people, including 350 foreigners, some of them convicted on terrorism charges.
On the night of January 1, 2017 in Istanbul was an attack on a night club Reina. Armed with a gun, the terrorist shot the policeman guarding the club, burst into the room, where there were more than 700 people and opened fire on them. According to the Ministry, 39 people died, 69 were injured. Responsibility for the attack took the IG*. The perpetrators of terrorist acts, a native of Uzbekistan Abdulkadir Masharipov, was detained on January 16 in the course of the antiterrorist operation in the area Esenyurt in Istanbul.
