In the State Kremlin Palace was awarded the laureates of the Federation of Jewish communities of Russia “Fiddler on the roof”

Moscow. 18 Dec. INTERFAX – the 16th annual award ceremony of the Federation of Jewish communities of Russia “Fiddler on the roof” was held on Sunday evening in the State Kremlin Palace.

This time among winners of the award were the President of the Museum of fine arts. A. S. Pushkin Irina Antonova (nominated “Man of legend”), directed by Andrei Konchalovsky, indicating the tragedy of the Holocaust in the film “Ray” and the President of the European Jewish Congress Vyacheslav Kantor, awarded for assistance in organizing the “March of life” in the memorial complex of the concentration camp “Auschwitz-Birkenau”.

Among other laureates of the Governor of Smolensk region Alexey Ostrovskiy (for facilitating the creation of the Jewish Museum complex “Lubavitch”), host of “Rules of life” on TV channel “Culture” Alexey Begak (for a series of programs about Jewish culture and tradition), writer Michael Weisskopf, which examined Jewish themes in the works of Isaac Babel.

In the nomination “Theatre” was awarded to Director Sergey Shirokov, who set the Opera Moses Weinberg’s “the Passenger” on the eponymous novel Zofia Posmysz, in the category “Music” marked the composer Yuri Sherling for the musical display of Jewish history in the oratorio “Exodus”, the head of the publishing house “Corpus” Varvara Gornostaeva awarded for contribution to the promotion of Jewish literature in Russia.

“Cultural event of the year” named creation of an exposition hall in the post-war Jewish Museum and tolerance center, for which he was awarded Yang Vizinberg, the head of the company “Lorem Ipsum”. In the category “Community life” prize awarded by the Chairman of the Jewish community of Krasnoyarsk Yuri Livshits, and in the category “Courage” – Rabbi Yosef Mendelevich, in his time actively fighting for the rights of Jews in the USSR.

The cultural part of the event, which was conducted by Valdis Pelsh and Yana Churikova, included a gala concert dedicated to this year’s Jewish humor. Among the participants were Maxim Galkin, Alexander Filippenko, Semyon Altov, musician Peter nalitch and other artists.

Award “Fiddler on the roof” (formerly “man of the year”) was established in 2002. Her symbol was the figure of a Fiddler on the roof created by sculptor Frank Meisler as a symbol of the fact that, despite any life circumstances, the person should be “the violinist of the spirit,” to be on the ball and continue to play his “violin”. The award is presented annually in the first days of the celebration of Hanukkah to those people whose activities have made a significant and recognized contribution to the development of cultural and public life of the country.

In previous years the laureates of “Fiddler on the roof” were Iosif Kobzon, Peter Todorovsky, Vladimir Mashkov, Yuri Norstein, Oscar Feltsman, Leonid Roshal, Irina Viner, Roman Abramovich, Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Zhores Alferov, Pavel Chukhray and others.
