Actress Mira Sorvino has said that she is “heartsick” after learning she may have lost a major role because of Harvey Weinstein.

The lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson said both Sorvino and Ashley Judd have been “blacklisted” as a result of conversations with the Weinstein company.

Weinstein has denied the allegations of misconduct, and the establishment of the black-list actresses.

The Lord of the Rings, the trilogy was originally in development with the Weinstein Miramax company, before being passed to New Line Cinema.

In an interview with Stuff.co.new zealand this week, Jackson said he was concerned by the casting of two women in the famous franchise.

“I remember Miramax for us to say that they were a nightmare to work with, and we must avoid them at all costs. This was probably in 1998,” he told the site.

“At the time, we had no reason to question what these guys have to tell us.”

“Now, I suspect we were fed false information about these two talented women – and as a direct result of their names have been removed from our casting list.”

“With the benefit of hindsight, I realize that it was very probably the Miramax smear campaign in full swing,” Jackson said.

In a statement through a publicist, Weinstein has denied allegations that he was involved in the blacklisting Sorvino and Judd, saying that the casting for the Lord of the Rings was produced by New Line Cinema – not Miramax.

The statement also said that Judd has been cast in two other films by Mr. Weinstein, and that “Sorvino has always been considered for other movies.”

Weinstein’s refusal prompted Jackson to write another answer, worn by Entertainment Weekly, calling it a “deviation from the truth”.

“In 18 months, we have developed the Lord of the Rings at Miramax, we’ve had a lot of casting conversations with Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein and their leaders,” Jackson wrote.

“The cinema has changed hands from Miramax to the Line before start actually running, but because we had been warned off Ashley and Mira by Miramax, and we were naive enough to assume that we had told the truth, [we] do not raise their names in the New moulding Line conversations.”
