Istanbul. 13 Dec. INTERFAX – foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu has urged member countries of the Organization of Islamic cooperation to protect Jerusalem and to promote the recognition of East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine among other countries, reported on Wednesday the newspaper “daily Hurriyet”.
“We recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, should encourage other countries to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine based on 1967 borders”, – said M. Cavusoglu at the Council meeting of foreign Ministers of the OIC in Istanbul.
“To defend Jerusalem, which is a Holy place for the three Abrahamic religions!” – called on M. Cavusoglu.
Earlier, the foreign Ministers of the Arab League during an emergency meeting called on the world community to recognize the sovereignty of Palestine and the status of East Jerusalem as its capital.
On 6 December the President of the United States J. trump announced that the U.S. recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and on the preparation of transfer from tel Aviv to the American Embassy. This decision provoked sharp criticism from most Islamic countries.
