The Moscow Patriarchate gained the support of the Ministry of defence in aid of the Patriarchal hospital in Syria (updated version)

Moscow. 5 Dec. INTERFAX – Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia assured Patriarch John of Antioch continued support of Christians in Syria, including with the Russian Ministry of defense.

“We have asked the Ministry of defence and received the reply that steps will be taken to support the Patriarchal hospital (hospital of the Church of Antioch – Interfax) in the first half of 2018,” – said the Primate of the Russian Church at a meeting with Patriarch John on Tuesday in Moscow.

He recalled that earlier in the Patriarchal hospital in Syria had already been delivered 5 tons of medicines and medical equipment.

“Today, your Church was the center of persecution and suffering. We who have experienced something similar, realize, what pain, what sorrow lies today upon your heart and the hearts of the believers in Syria and Iraq,” said Patriarch Kirill.

He expressed his “deepest condolences” to the Patriarch John, and all who are under his omophorion and “for the name of Christ have lost their lives or were expelled from the territory of their residence.”

According to the Primate of the Russian Church, it was very important to destroy terrorism, which threatens not only the Middle East but to all countries, including Russia.

“Today, including as a result of the Russian Armed forces liberated almost the entire territory of Syria, including those areas where compactly lived the Christians,” said Patriarch Kirill.

He expressed hope for the speedy end of the war and the return of people to their homes. “On the agenda, of course, raises the question of assistance to refugees who would return to their place of residence, the creation of jobs,” – said the Patriarch.

The Russian Orthodox Church, he continued, seeks to help Christians in Syria: in the temples are held fundraisers, “and the people respond that the funds were drawn on the help of our brothers suffering in Syria.”

For safe delivery of this aid, the Church cooperates with state and public organizations, said the Patriarch. So to have been delivered assistance to low-income families and pupils of Sunday schools in the cities Mahardi, Marmarita, Maalyulya and Latakia.

The Patriarchate of Antioch is one of the four ancient Eastern Patriarchates. According to legend, the Church in Antioch was founded about 37 years, in the year 451 was established Patriarchy.

Currently, the jurisdiction of the Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch extends to Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, Iran, the Arabian Peninsula, southern Turkey, has a diocese (Archdiocese) and on other continents, including North and South America, Australia and Europe.
