Moscow. 5 Dec. INTERFAX – Russia is extremely interested in the fact that in the middle East did not split along confessional lines, said on Tuesday Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
“In this region (middle East – if) traditionally coexisted peacefully representatives of different ethnic and religious groups, there arose the key religions of the world, and we are vitally interested in the fact that it is not divided along confessional lines in this key region of the world,” said Lavrov at the meeting with the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East John X.
According to the Minister, Russia’s efforts to resolve the problems in the middle East is also aimed at alleviating the plight of Christians in the region.
“At the same time, efforts to establish inclusive national dialogue to resolve the problems of Syria, Iraq, Libya, other countries in the region to put aside rivalries and unite in the fight against the terrorist threat,” he said.
Sergei Lavrov noted that “it will contribute to alleviating the plight of Christians.”
“This has helped the liberation of Palmyra, Aleppo, and this helps create zones of de-escalation, which we have agreed in the framework of the Astana process”, – the Minister added.
