Patriarch Kirill is concerned about the attempts to legislate religious discrimination in Ukraine

Moscow. 29 Nov. INTERFAX – Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill during the work of the bishops ‘ Council in Moscow has expressed concern over the situation with the observance of religious freedom in Ukraine.

“Of particular concern are the attempts by certain political forces to interfere in the internal life of the Church, to prevent the registration of its communities, to enshrine religious discrimination at the legislative level,” he said.

The Primate noted that in this context, Metropolitan Onufry (the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate), the episcopate, clergy and all the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church “really need ardent prayers.”

“The events of recent years confirm that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church remains the only force able to unite the Ukrainian society. Courageous, balanced position of its hierarchy, not allowing to involve the Church in conflict on any of its sides, brings its good fruit”, – said the Patriarch.

He noted that “bear fruit of the efforts of the Church to liberate captives, significant volumes of humanitarian assistance to the civilians of the Donbas affected by the hostilities.”

In peace feat the Ukrainian Orthodox Church manifests her love for Ukraine, its genuine patriotism, said the Primate.
