Steinmeier commented on the failure of the talks on creating coalition

BERLIN, 20 Nov — RIA Novosti, angelina Timofeeva. After the failure of exploratory talks on forming a government, Germany is in a situation that wasn’t almost 70 years, said the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

“Preliminary talks on the establishment of the government still not brought results. <…> That puts political party before even greater challenges,” he said.

The President called political forces to “pause and rethink your position.” “I expect the negotiators demonstrate a willingness to form a government in the foreseeable future,” added Steinmeier.

In the coming days he will meet with party leaders and with the heads of the Bundestag, the Bundesrat and its constitutional court.

“Green” has declared that is ready to continue negotiations.

Previously Free democratic party of Germany (FDP), refused to create a parliamentary coalition with the CDU/CSU of Angela Merkel and “Green” — the so-called unions of “Jamaica”.

Jamaica would have 393 of 709 seats in the Bundestag (55 percent), however, after the liberals remains only 44 per cent of mandates.

The social democratic party of Germany (SPD) also ruled out the possibility of participating in a “Grand coalition” with the CDU/CSU — it would create a majority government (399 seats, or 56 percent).

If the talks do not succeed, it will be available in two versions: a minority government, which in German history has not been, or new elections that never showed up so quickly.
