U.S. Secretary of state made a statement on the occasion of the International day for the elimination of violence against women
“On the occasion of the International day for the elimination of violence against women celebrated on November 25, and also the sixteen days of activism against gender violence, the United States reiterates its commitment to the protection of the rights of women and girls to live free from violence,” the document says.
“The international campaign – continues the head of the state Department, is aimed at attracting attention to the problem of violence against women, including the underage marriage and forced marriage, domestic violence and all forms of human trafficking. We know that violence against women and girls undermines peace and security in the world, weakens the social structure, unifying families and communities, and hinders countries to achieve social stability and economic development.”
It says the US Secretary of state, “nearly two decades after the UN General Assembly established the international day for the elimination of violence against women, we continue to recognize that violence against women is a recurring threat and impediment to achieving gender equality”.
“The United States is particularly concerned that the extremist organizations that use violence against women as a tactic of terror for the oppression of women, the recruitment of terrorists and stigmatization of certain population groups. We condemn by terrorist organizations forced recruitment, sexual exploitation and harassment, including treatment of women and girls into sexual slavery,” said Rex Tillerson.
In a statement, US foreign Minister also emphasized: “the United States will never stop fighting for gender equality. In partnership with other governments, international organizations and civil societies around the world, we will continue to work on the elimination of violence against women and girls worldwide and to ensure equal rights and opportunities for women and girls. On the international day for the elimination of violence against women and to commemorate 16 days of activism against gender violence, we call on all States to join us in fulfilling our General duty – to stop violence against women”.
