To detained in Belarus Ukrainian journalist Paul Sharoika allowed Ukrainian Consul. Comments about this “112 Ukraine”, said Ukrainian Ambassador to Belarus Igor Kizim.
According to him, the Consul was allowed to see the detainee after the Belarusian side was sent to the request.
“As soon as we reported it (the arrest Sharoika – ed.) we sent a note regarding access to the detainee. This access was granted, our Consul met with Sharoika to find out in what conditions it contains and that he did not complain. Then met with our Consul’s wife Sharoika and lawyer,” – said the Ambassador.
Kizim added that Sharoika kept in the remand prison of the KGB of Belarus in Minsk.
“After the detention has been named the causes is charged with espionage under the criminal code of Belarus. He is now in the KGB detention center under investigation,” he said, adding that the foreign Ministry of Belarus still has not issued an official comment on the detention.
Earlier it was reported that Belarus has detained the correspondent of “Ukrainian radio” Paul Sharoika.
The Director of the Department of consular service of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Vasily Kirilich has confirmed the information about detention of the journalist.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus Igor Kizim in the comments of “Radio Liberty” also noted that the Embassy “understands this situation.”
