The head of the Senate Committee on the armed forces issued a statement about Moscow’s actions in relation to international media
Senator John McCain, who heads the Senate Committee on armed forces, made a statement regarding the approval by the state Duma a bill allowing the Russian government to register the international media as foreign agents.
“Vladimir Putin’s Russia closer to qualifying foreign media as “foreign agents” – presumably in revenge for the requirement of the US Department of justice (TV) RT, which American intelligence calls the “most important international media propaganda of the Kremlin”, has been registered as a foreign agent,” says McCain.
“As a champion of free speech and free press around the world, the United States must with certainty declare: RT and television network, similar to “Voice of America”, Radio Free Europe/ Freedom, CNN and BBC” unequal – said McCain.
“Journalists working in these organizations, seek the truth, expose the lies and provide government accountability. Propagandists RT debunk the truth, spread lies and seek to destabilize democratic government, performing a program of Vladimir Putin”, – said the legislator.
McCain stated: “Vladimir Putin does not need justification because it inhibits foreign media – just as he didn’t need an excuse for endless killing of journalists and political opponents in recent years. Putin knows that the greatest threat to his dictatorship is a true and genuine willingness of Russian patriots to speak and act in accordance with it”.
