Analysts: China unlikely to increase pressure on Pyongyang, but it may make concessions in trade
A lot has changed since then, as President trump and President XI Jinping earlier this year met for the first time in Florida. But much remained the same.
Trade, as before, is a subject of serious discussion. Just a few days before his visit, trump called the trade deficit with China “shameful and terrible”.
On the first plan in a relationship out the situation around North Korea. During his visit, the President trump will try to persuade Beijing to put more efforts to influence North Korea’s behavior.
However, according to analysts, in this matter, China has its limits. Besides, Beijing has supported some of the toughest measures against the DPRK.
“China could go on the limited, but still more substantial concessions to the Trump trade, that did not harm the Chinese economy and financial sector,” said Shi Ying-Hong, a political scientist from the people’s University of China (Beijing).
XI Jinping, recently received the status of the most powerful Chinese leader since Mao Zedong, attempts to create a favorable atmosphere and to show that he is a successful world leader.
China also wants to convince trump to abandon so serious and so constant threats against North Korea since it can produce the opposite effect and push Kim Jong UN to further escalation of nuclear and missile activities.
On the streets of Beijing someone expresses concerns about North Korea and the threat that it represents for China and the entire region.
“We must use peaceful means in relations with Kim Jong-UN, but if he continues to alienate the world and to use force to destroy others, all we can do is to use force and destroy it,” – said the accountant named Liu.
However, most of the residents of the Chinese capital are more concerned with immigration policies trump the situation with visas. Some expect that the visit will bring positive changes in this matter.
“Many of my classmates went abroad, I would like to stay in the U.S. to live or work, but if trump will conduct a more xenophobic policy, will make it more difficult,” says graduate student Jiang.
“I think many would like to visa policy softened. Many people want to go to the USA. This is still a very attractive country,” says Hao (accountant by profession).
Few of our interviewees hopes for a quick solution to the North Korean issue or a speedy resolution of the disagreements between the two countries. China, commenting on the trump of the trade deficit, stressed that the deficit did not arise as a result of deliberate action.
Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson goes to Myanmar (Burma); then the foreign Minister will accompany President trump on a tour of Asia. This was announced on Thursday, the U.S. state Department.
From 5 to 7 November Tillerson will be in Tokyo. Together with the President, he will take part in the bilateral talks between the US President and the head of the Japanese government Shinzo Abe.
With President trump the Secretary of state Tillerson will visit South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines.
