The head of Rostourism called Tatarstan a promising region for the development of the pilgrimage

Moscow. 3 Nov. INTERFAX – Tatarstan may become a promising region for the development of Muslim tourism, said the head of the Federal tourism Agency Oleg Safonov, speaking at the tourism forum “benchmarks of the future” in Kazan.

“Tatarstan is of interest to tourists who profess Islam. Throughout the region are many monuments of Islamic culture, which is a promising basis for the development of religious tourism and pilgrimage and excursion” – said O. Safonov.

He recalled that currently, the Federal tourism Agency is implementing the project “Halal-friendly”, aimed to make traveling in Russia comfortable for the representatives of the Islamic culture. The project involves hotels and restaurants now offer Halal menu. Attention is also paid to the training of guide-interpreters.

“The implementation of this programme promotes an increase in domestic tourism income of tourist industry and General increase loyalty to the Russian objects of tourist industry”, – said Oleg Safonov.

The head of the Federal tourism Agency noted that, according to statistics, the current generation of Muslims actively travels around the world, and it is expected that by 2020 their number will increase to 156 million.
