Most Russian Protestants, in contrast to the West, in favor of traditional morality – Metropolitan Hilarion

Moscow. 2 Nov. INTERFAX – the head of the Synodal Department for external Church relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk emphasized different attitudes of Russian and Western Protestants to traditional moral values.

“Some communities North and West on the path of liberalization of theological and moral doctrine, announced by the norm what in Scripture is referred to as sin, introduced under the influence of secular ideology of the ritual “blessing” of same-sex unions and many other innovations”, – he said at a solemn reception in Moscow in honor of the 500th anniversary of the reformation.

“However,” continued the Metropolitan, a significant portion of Protestants, and it includes most of the Protestant communities of Russia, continues to stand in the traditional position in moral questions.

He expressed the hope that this position will remain steadfast.

“If we are to follow the principle of the Scripture alone (the principle supporters of the reformation – if), then he needs to follow in all things, including those issues on which the modern secular world has taken a different position,” – said the Hierarch of the Russian Church.
