In Kiev observed increase in the incidence of meningococcal disease. This was stated by the Director of the Department of health of Kyiv city state administration Valentyna Ginzburg, the press service of the city hall.
According to her, this year has already registered 27 cases against 10 last year. Among children up to 17 years â€“ 18 cases against 10 in 2016.
The disease is transmitted by airborne droplets and has a different shape from such that is not life threatening â€“ to the threat of meningococcemia. The most vulnerable to disease â€“ children (about 80%) and people with weakened immune systems.
“Intrigue of the disease lies in the fact that the first symptoms are like the symptoms of SARS, and the mortality can occur within 24 hours after their appearance,” said Ginsburg.
Among the major signs that may indicate the presence of meningococcal disease, â€“ fever, drowsiness, lethargy. Then a rash, which has signs of hemorrhage.
