Trump intends to introduce in the U.S. a state of emergency due to the spread of drugs

MOSCOW, 26 Oct — RIA Novosti. The US President Donald trump said that he intends to declare a state of emergency in connection with rising cases of drug abuse, particularly opioids.

“Next week I intend to declare a state of emergency due to drugs. With opium-a terrible emergency situation”, — said the American President in interview to TV channel Fox Business.

According to him, a wall on the border with Mexico is necessary to build, in particular, to resolve problems of drug distribution in the United States. Earlier, trump promised to build a wall on the border with Mexico to protect against illegal immigration. In August, the President of the United States reiterated that it will force Mexico to pay for the construction of the wall because that “will help with the flow of drugs” and eliminate the problems with crime, which, according to him, imported from Mexico.

The use of artificial opiates in the U.S. has increased over the last 25 years about three times to more than 200 million prescriptions written annually. As of 2014, according to estimates by the National Institute for the study of drug addiction in the US was more than 2 million people addicted to synthetic opiates, five times more than a heroin addict. Deaths from all opiates, including heroin, more than 10 per 100 thousand population per year, from an overdose of medical drugs kills more people than heroin.

In August, trump held a meeting on combating dependence on opiates and stated that it is necessary to focus on prevention. American law enforcement officers reflect on strategies to combat the epidemic of opiates — among them the ability to tighten the procedure for issuing prescriptions and responsibility for illegal turnover of specialized drugs.
