A new musical about a teenager who wants to has created a drag queen, two Theater awards.
Everyone is Talking About Jamie won as best musical production at the UK theatre awards, with its star John McCrea as the best musical actor.
The UK theatre awards best stage shows reward outside of London.
Everyone is Talking About Jamie, based on a 2011 BBC documentary, Three, began at the Sheffield Crucible in February and transfer to the West End.
It is the story of 16-year – old Jamie-played by McCrea told – who wants to follow his dream of becoming a drag performer. It was Three Jamie: Drag Queen inspired by the BBC on 16.
The musical has songs with Dan Gillespie Sells, lead singer of the pop band The Feeling, and a script and lyrics by writer Tom MacRae.
The British theatre awards success is just a few days after he won the culture prize at the Attitude magazine awards.
The show in the West End transfer at the Apollo Theatre in London on may 6. November.
Other UK theatre awards winners belonged to Narvik from Lizzie monastery, which was named best new play; and Joseph Millson, who has won the best performance in a play for his role in the Royal Shakespeare Company The Rover.
The Who’s Tommy took the award for best touring production, while the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse artistic Director Gemma Bodinetz, the best Director, won for the successful revival of the folk repertory company.
