Walker and Surkov discussed the situation in Ukraine

Envoys of the USA and Russia held a meeting in the framework of the attempts to end the conflict in Eastern Ukraine.

The Minister of foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dacic said that the special representative of the United States Ukraine Kurt Volker and assistant to the President of Russia Vladislav Surkov met on Saturday in Belgrade, but no details of the meeting behind closed doors is unknown.

Before meeting Walker wrote on Twitter that the participants will focus on “opportunities to accelerate the implementation of the Minsk agreements and restoring the territorial integrity of Ukraine”.

The peace agreement signed in Minsk in 2015, called for a ceasefire between separatists, supported by Russia, and government forces. The conflict in Eastern Ukraine has killed more than 10 thousand people. The agreement is often violated.

Previously, the press Secretary of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov said that the purpose of the meeting was to compare notes between the two countries.

Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Tefft also suggested previously that Walker and marmots can discuss at the meeting of the UN peacekeeping mission in the Donbas.

Previously, Walker refused to meet with Surkov in Russia, and Surkov denied entry into the EU in accordance with EU sanctions in connection with Russia’s role in Ukraine.
