In other developments, the hosts of the Oscars are to hold talks emergency this weekend to consider Weinstein’s role in the future.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has said the allegations of sexual assault against Weinstein were “disgusting”.

The WE of the academy, which has awarded 81 academy awards for the films produced by the Weinstein’s studio Miramax and the Weinstein Company, said it would meet on Saturday to “discuss the allegations against Weinstein and all the measures which are justified by the academy”.

Bafta, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, has already suspended his membership.

A statement was also issued by the Cannes film Festival, Weinstein has participated in numerous occasions.

President Pierre Lescure has said they were “appalled to learn that the accusations”.

“These actions point to a pattern of behavior that deserves to be only the most clear and unequivocal,” he said.

“Our thoughts go out to the victims, to those who have had the courage to testify and to all the others. May this event help us to denounce once more all the serious and unacceptable practices.”

These statements are in response to the news that his wife, Georgina Chapman, 41, announced she was leaving him in the wake of these allegations.

Weinstein, spokesperson for Sallie Hofmeister has also said that it “obviously can’t speak to anonymous allegations, but with respect to all the women who have made revelations on the minutes, Mr. Weinstein believes that all of these relationships were consensual.

“Mr. Weinstein has started counselling, has listened to the community and is in pursuit of a better way.”
