Tillerson is concerned about the detention of American citizens in Ankara

WASHINGTON, 12 Feb — RIA Novosti. U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson expressed to the foreign Minister of Turkey Mevlut Cavusoglu, has voiced deep concern over the detention in Ankara of the American citizens and employees of the diplomatic mission, said the official representative of Department Heather Nauert.

As noted, Tillerson asked to provide proof of the charges. In addition, the parties agreed to continue contacts on the situation.

The U.S. Embassy in Ankara earlier said that Washington expresses deep concern over the arrest of an employee of the American Consulate General in Istanbul Metin Toposa and considers the allegations against him are unfounded and undermining long-standing relationship with Turkey.

On Sunday, the U.S. Embassy announced the suspension of the issuance of nonimmigrant visas at U.S. diplomatic missions in Turkey. The Turkish Embassy responded with a mirror, announcing the suspension of issuing visas to Americans.
