Patriarch Kirill thanked the President of Uzbekistan for building a warm and open relationship with the Church

Tashkent. 2 Oct. INTERFAX – Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill addressed to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirzieev with words of gratitude for the establishment of relations between the Orthodox and the state.

“I would like to Express my gratitude to Shavkat to Miromonovich, our Uzbek President, for the work he and his team carry on the organization of people’s lives and how relationships are built between government and the Orthodox Church,” he said Sunday after the Liturgy in the Dormition Cathedral of Tashkent.

The Primate noted that when the Muslims of Uzbekistan, he had the pleasure to “feel the warmth, hospitality and openness towards the Orthodox, and respect for, and sympathy.”

“And it’s worth it, because we know that in many countries religious conflicts bleeding, torn apart by the contradictions of human society, and therefore need especially to appreciate civil peace, inter-religious peace and the conditions in the state that help people to work together”, – he said.

Before the service, the Patriarch of the great rite consecrated the Cathedral after a major renovation, which was carried out in it.

Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God is the Cathedral of Tashkent and Uzbekistan eparchy. The Church was built in 1878 with funds residents. The overhaul lasted about three years.
